Transition

Grant High School recognises the importance of ensuring that year 6 students are thoroughly prepared for life in a secondary school and places great emphasis on ensuring students are comfortable with their new environment well before the start of the new school year. The programme includes targeted staff regularly visiting primary schools, year 6 students spending considerable time at Grant High School and the careful collation of data which enables us to place students in the most appropriate class for them. At the start of the year, our new year 7s attend a 3-day camp at Robe with their teachers.

Year 7 class sizes are kept to approximately 24. This enables each student to have individual attention from the teacher each lesson, which greatly enhances learning opportunities.

Middle school programme

Year 7 students are taught English, mathematics and science by 2 teachers for the whole year. At least 1 of these teachers is the homegroup teacher. This encourages long-term positive relationships between students and teachers. It also supports adolescents who require structure and consistency in order to perform at their best.
