Prawulu building – capital works redevelopment

On Tuesday 9 March 2022, we celebrated the official opening of our new building, Prawulu. The name “Prawulu” signifies “middle” and refers to its geographical location in the school, in the Bunganditj language. The event was officiated by the Hon. John Gardner MP, Former Minister for Education. The building incorporates modern performing arts and music suites, complete with a recording studio, general learning areas, a new canteen, and a significant refurbishment of an original 1961 classroom into a Physics laboratory.

The construction of Prawulu was made possible through a $7 million investment by the state government’s Capital Works Program, associated with the transition of year 7 students to high school.

STEM Build

Officially opened in March 2019, the STEM Build brought new life into the existing 1960s Junior Floor, with modern glass-fronted learning areas, individual study booths, a makerspace, a student hub, breakout collaborative learning spaces and new staff offices. This build, which also saw upgraded art studios, special option classrooms, and a multi-media lab, offers limitless possibilities for learning and creativity.

Agricultural farm

Grant High School offers a comprehensive Agriculture program, with over 20 acres of grazing land on the eastern side of the school consisting of an established Simmental Cattle Stud and Poll Dorset Sheep Stud, extensive agricultural machinery and facilities.

The school is well positioned to offer Agriculture, with units embedded in the integrated science and HASS curriculum in years 7 and 8 and as a standalone subject in year 9 Agriculture Practical.

Agricultural Production and Agricultural Systems are offered at both Stage I and Stage II levels in conjunction with a 3-year Flexible Industry Pathways Primary Industries program (FIPPI) beginning at a year 10 level. The FIPPI incorporates industry immersion visits, the delivery of Employability Skills, Existing and Cutting Edge technologies, Stage I and II Integrated Learning and Workplace Practices units and relevant VET competencies, so students accumulate Stage I and II SACE credits undertaking the certificate course.

Independent Learning Centre (ILC)

2023 saw the inclusion of the Independent Learning Center (ILC) at Grant High School. The ILC is a learning environment for students, who for various reasons, require a flexible learning program. Although on a separate campus, we have been quick to adapt a whole school approach through building on the capacity of staff, students, parents and wider communities to create collaborations in providing outstanding educational options and outcomes for all our students.
